Programs for Veterans & Members of the Armed Services with Permanent Disabilities 

Move United has awarded Summit Adaptive Sports a grant toward programs for Veterans and Members of the Armed Services who have permanent disabilities as part of the VA Adaptive Sports Grant Program for 2023 - 2024.  This programming is sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Move United. 

The Programs: 

 

Winter Programs

Our program offers adaptive sport coaching in skiing and snowboarding and can include using adaptive equipment including bi-ski, mono-ski, outriggers for 3 or 4 track, snow slider and snow bike if needed.  If snow conditions allow, we will offer Nordic Skiing (x-country or telemark). Our focus is on skill development with the greatest extent of independence possible. Lessons are for 2 ½ hours which includes time to get rental equipment and breaks as needed. In 2024 we will offer lessons on the following dates: Wed 1/31 @5:30 pm, Wed 2/7 @ 3:00pm, Thurs 2/15 @3:00pm, Wed 2/21 @3:00pm, Sat 2/24 @1:00pm, Wed 2/28 @5:30pm, Wed 3/6 @ 3:00pm, Sat 3/9 @1:00pm. 

 

Spring/Summer/Fall Programs

Our program offers adaptive sport coaching in kayaking, hiking, disc golf and mountain biking including using adaptive equipment such as hiking chairs, adaptive kayaks and paddles and adaptive e-assist mountain bikes if needed.  Our focus is on skill development with the greatest extent of independence possible. Lesson times vary by sport, but generally approximately 2 hours.  

 

  1. Group Events - small groups either during the day or evening where veterans can enjoy camaraderie while still accessing one-on-one coaching.  The current planned schedule includes once a week over 5 or 6 weeks. 

  2. Individual Lessons  - if an individual lesson fits your schedule better we will offer up to 5 lessons a season.   

Who is Eligible:  

  1. The primary beneficiaries for this award are Veterans and Members of the Armed Services who have a permanent disability*. 

     *Qualifying disabilities include any disability requiring adaptive equipment and/or instruction (does not     

 include mental health/illness as the sole diagnosis).

   2. Participants must be eligible for participating in VA Programs and are not debarred.

 

Cost to Participate: 

  1. Participation in the Program is at no cost to the veteran and includes adaptive sports instruction/coaching, adaptive and/or rental equipment, facilities, and lift tickets/entrance fees for the Veteran.  

  2. If you have a concern about transportation or have companions/family wanting to participate please contact us.  

 

Steps to Participate:

1. Complete the following Registration Form (and the waiver link that is included at the end).

2. A Summit Adaptive Sports team member will contact you regarding scheduling information.
